John Birch Paintings​

This year I embarked on a new series - focussing and expanding on the painting technique that I have used over the past few years - that of applying paint by dripping and throwing which removes the discipline of brush marks and introduces a random less controlled element. At the same time I abandoned all direct references to the subject matter and went fully abstract - this has also allowed me the freedom to use an unlimited range of colours. 

Although there is now no reference to subject matter - I believe that the works are nevertheless strongly influenced by the spirit of the Cornish environment and history.
