Early work 1970s

During this period I was living and working in central Bristol and the large two metre canvases I was working on reflected the urban environment. I happened to see a lot of Scientific American magazines at that time. These contained many strong, strange and memorable images which I used for the Grid series of paintings made in 1972-74.

 

Evolving from these paintings was the City series from 1974-76. These were all based on photographs taken by me of situations that I had set up using friends and locations in central Bristol.
